The technique of assembling, preparing and glueing materials decoratively blossomed into an acknowledged art form early in the 20th Century. Now, a well established, and ever evolving, technique, it is widely used by many working artists. It can also be a highly accessible and spontaneous way of art making and decoration for everyone.
The Workshop
This one day workshop, held in Ian Hamilton Finlay’s library on 20th July 2025, is in direct support of funds to restore those parts of the garden damaged by storm Eowyn. Multi media artist, and garden volunteer, Anne Moar, will demonstrate the fundamental methods of collage and illustrate different historic and current approaches. Supported by her, you will have the opportunity to experiment and create your own painted papers. Then you can choose to design a range of small works and learn how to protect them.
Key points
- All materials and tools will be provided. However, you may wish to bring a personal photograph or two for use in making a memento work.
- Surface choices will include gift labels & bags, blank cards and a 20x20cm canvas board. These are yours whether you use them on the day or take them home to develop later.
- Your fee of £80 will support the storm Eowyn repair fund, and includes access to the garden on the day.
If you would like to take part, email contact@littlesparta.org.uk to register your interest.
