For Doors Open Days 2021, Little Sparta’s head gardener George Gilliland explores the idea that Little Sparta is a garden of the sea.
This short film ‘Four Seasons in Sail’ is based on a talk which George gave as part of the Ian Hamilton Finlay ‘Marine’ exhibition at Edinburgh City Arts Centre. It also features imagery by photographer Robin Gillanders.
‘Marine’ runs until 3 October 2021.

Doors Open Days is Scotland’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment. It offers free access to over a thousand venues across the country each September.
